Dear students,
The first thing we did tonight was the correction of exercise 6 on page 57. Then we had extra practice on modal verbs and moved on to page 58 exercise 1-3 and talked about 'since' and 'for' and present perfect. Homework: workbook pages 36, 37 and exercise 2 on page 38 and exercise 4 on page 58 of your student's book.

As agreed last class, we started off by doing a vocabualry activity about the clip seen last class and then we did 'weather lovely,..' on page 73 and page 74. Homework: workbook page 45 exercises 1-3, which will help you write the second composition.

We did unit 7B exercises 3 and 4, a flipchart and a powerpoint file about conditional sentences, page 55 exercise 9 and CDROM unit 7B second conditional. Homework: ecampus exercises 'second conditional - interrogative, negative, affirmative and use'.

We did unit 6.1 up to exercise 5 and I explainde the modal verbs 'should, can and have to'. Homework: the first, fifth, sixth and seventh exercises in the ecampus, unit 6.

We started unit 7 by doing exercises 1, 2 and 3 on page 56 and exercise 3 on page 55. We also did an oral activity about the three students in exercise 2.

We did exercise 4 on page 71 and an activity about the vocabulary from the text. We also did an exercise about reporting verbs from a book called 'exam maximiser' and error correction using extracts from your compositions.

WORD OF THE WEEK

Booze can be either a verb or a noun, meaning to drink alcohol and alcoholic drink respectively. Despite its use in present-day informal British English, it is quite an old word and has been traced back as far as the 13th century. It is believed to derive from the old Dutch verb busen meaning ‘to drink to excess’.

These days it is more commonly used as a noun than a verb, although the form boozing can often be heard, as in We went out boozing last night. The related noun boozer can either mean a person who boozes, in other words a drinker, as in He’s a bit of a boozer, or, much more commonly, the place where a boozer boozes, namely a pub, as in The King’s Head is a decent boozer. Finally, there is the compound noun booze-up, which the Macmillan English Dictionary for Advanced Learners defines as 'a party or social event where people drink a lot of alcohol'. Cheers.

Dear students,
In the first part of the class we did an activity about all the vocabulary seen in module 8 and I asked you to write a paragraph using it. I'll correct everything and give you feedback next class. Apart from that, we did the activities on page 84 (exercises 1-4) and other exercises I prepared in a powerpoint file. You have to write a tactful letter like the one in exercise 2 and hand it in next class. I have also asked you to do the following ecampus exercises - a letter of complaint, adverb position, holiday around venice and time for tea.

I handed in your reports and showed your tests. We finished the activity on pages 48 and 49, did 'paterns to notice' on page 50 and exercises 6 and 7. I also asked you to do page 20 in your phrase builders and we did an activity about education. Homework: Resouce Pack page 66.

We did the activities on page 15, a dictogloss and watched a youtube clip about different accents, which was the topic seen in the exercises. Homework: wordspot page 14 and 5 ecampus exercises.

We corrected the homework and did the speaking activity on page 51, CDROM practises 1 and 2 and Communication page 52. Homework: page 54 ex 5 and any 5 exercises from the ecampus.

We started the class with a powerpoint activity about vocabulary from the text on page 69 and we did the exercises 1 to 3 (close up) on pages 70 and 71. In the end of the class we did an activity using reporting verbs. Homework: workbook page 41 and 42 exercises 1 to 4.

We started the class with an activity about computers. Then we did the quiz on page 52 and exercise 3 as well as extra exercises about abilities in the past and present. Don't forget to bring the reader next class as we are doing the reading cicles activity. Homework: workbook page 30 and 31 exercises 3 to 6.

In the first part of the class we corrected the activities about passive voice, we had a review of vocabulary of both units and I checked your doubts. The second one was the test.

We did the activity 'Learner questionnaire' on page 13 and then the writing task preparation, which is on pages 42 and 43 in your resource books. We have also agreed to do an oral activity on the 30th of September in which you have to choose any topic related to 'globalization' and prepare a 5-minute presentation. Some of the topics mentioned in class were: advertisings and China. Homework: writing task 1: 'Is globalization good or bad?'

We started off by checking vocabulary from the previous classes and then we did exercise 7 on page 51 and extra practise on indirect questions as well as the workbook exercise 1, page 34. Homework: workbook page 34 and 35, exercises 2 and 3.

We started the class talking about what could go really wrong on a holiday. Then we moved on to the text on page 69 and did exercise 3 on page 68. We did an activity using the vocabulary from the text and finished by doing the exercises 'lexis' and 'anecdote' on page 70.
